NORTH CAROLINA in a nutshell

Governor Roy Cooper (D) has used his veto dozens of times to block extreme legislation passed by GOP lawmakers. Republicans hope to neutralize Cooper for the rest of his term by gaining a veto-proof supermajority in the state legislature. To prevent that, Democrats need to elect strong candidates in competitive districts.

It’s also crucial for Dems to hold their 4-3 majority on the state Supreme Court, which will rule on key issues leading up to 2024, including redistricting disputes, voting rights and abortion access.
